Creation and Usage Notes
I decided to respell names to go with the original idea that we were going to eschew English spellings in Trigedasleng. The very first line I translated was "I am Octavia of the Sky People and I seek safe passage", and Marie Avgeropoulos wasn't totally on board with the conlang idea—and especially not with the idea of not using English spelling. It was crucial to stick to the romanization system even with English names for the sake of consistency, and to prevent confusion.
The only thing that really tested this idea was the name Clarke. The main character of the show, the most important name on the show, arguably, and it renders terribly in Trig. There is simply no equivalent of the English sequence [ɑɹ] (it comes out as [ɔ] in Trig.). I really hesitated the first time I spelled Clarke as Klok, but...ultimately I relented. I was consistent up to that point, so there was no reason to stop. It may have been confusing for the actors, but they had the recordings, so I think it was fine. -David J.
