Creation and Usage Notes

During season 1 there was discussion of creating a lullaby for Stahma, played by Jaime Murray, to sing to Kenya as she died. At some point I may have either been asked to write lyrics for it or I may have wrote lyrics for it, but by the time it aired, she ended up simply singing this word to Kenya. I think it did come from me at some point, but it may have bene part of a longer lullaby I had written. Let me check... Okay, having gone back to the email, Jaime emailed me on October 23, 2012. I guess they originally wanted me to give her the Castithan translation of "pretty little human", but Jaime didn't like that, reasoning that Stahma never would have said that back on planet Casti (and, indeed, why would she have? They knew nothing of humans). She asked for the line "Go to sleep". Since this non-finite form doubles as an imperative, I gave her this, reasoning that it could be the first part of a longer lullaby (which I didn't end up writing), and then she sang it. An interesting discussion took place amongst a ton of studio people after the scene was shot as they tried to figure out what she was singing. I was looped in because she was singing Castithan. Ultimately the decision came that since it was just a few seconds and the melody was improvised and Jaime wasn't a part of ASCAP or BMI they would ignore it.
