Kamakawi is a language created by David J. Peterson. It was inspired by Hawaiian in terms of its sound, though it is otherwise quite different, especially in terms of orthography. Glyphs from the Kamakawi script can be seen in icons in various places on this site. The name of the language comes from the word for "rainbow" (< kama (to paint) + kawi (cloud)), and was named in honor of the musician Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.
