I didn't want there to be a word that meant "elf" in this language. I thought it would be weird that they'd describe themselves as elves—using the exact same word that we have for elf. Instead, I created this word, referring to a dark color, and made a word that derives from this one—älfenää—that translates to "dark elf". Essentially, it's just "dark blue/purple one". Now it's that part of the word that supposedly gave us our word for "elf", which we defined as we saw fit. (Also, the Dark Elves are technically alien lifeforms, so...)
