Shu is a language created by Jessie Peterson with assistance from David Peterson for the Netflix series Shadow and Bone, an adaptation of the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. It is spoken in Shu Han, a southern nation inspired by East Asia. Bardugo drew mostly from Chinese when creating Shu vocabulary for the books, but Jessie and David Peterson set out to create something original based on this, while maintaining consistency with the book material.
