Westeros is a continent to the west of Essos in the universe of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R. R. Martin as well as its TV adaptations Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. It is where most of the story of both the books and the series takes place. Languages spoken in Westeros include the Common Tongue (the most widely spoken across the continent, exclusively rendered as English), Gerna Mohr (spoken by the Children of the Forest), Mag Nuk (spoken by giants in the far north), and High Valyrian (spoken natively on the island of Dragonstone by House Targaryen and as a learned prestige language by the noble and educated classes).
