Template:Prefix cat

From The Languages of David J. Peterson
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This template should be used on pages in the Category: namespace, and automatically generates descriptions and categorization for categories of a recognized type (see below). It is implemented by Module:category tree and its submodule Module:category tree/affix cat. It is preferable not to invoke this template directly, but to simply use {{auto cat}} (with no parameters), which will automatically invoke this template on appropriately-named category pages.

This template generates a short description for categories of prefixes of various languages.

Parameters

Required parameters:

|1=
The language code.
|2=
The prefix (without a hyphen, if the script uses hyphens).

Optional parameters:

|pos=
The part of speech, which is used as part of the category's name. This should match the |pos= parameter given to {{prefix}}. If not provided, it will default to "word".
|id=
The sense id. This is the word or phrase in parentheses at the end of the category name: for example, Category:English words prefixed with a- (not). There should also be a {{senseid}} in the entry for the suffix that matches the sense id in the category name.
|sort=
The category sort key. Usually not needed. If not provided, it will use the prefix itself as the sort key.
