Dothraki

Etymology

From a- +‎ fenat.

Pronunciation

IPA(key): /affeˈn̪at̪/

Rhymes: -at

Verb

affenat (causative verb, infinitive)

  1. to make something attach
Inflection

Usage Notes

The use of this word would differ from the use of the word akkemat (to connect, to attach). The root morpheme kem has a stronger sense of cohesion between the two items coming together than fen, which can be seen in other words derived from these roots. The word for marriage, the union of two people in matrimony is athkemar, while the word to cling is fenolat. One would expect to use affenat when two items are haphazardly attached, like a coffee mug glued to a cat, as opposed to something more precise and intentional with akkemat — like the hem of a dress being carefully sewn onto a garment.
