High Valyrian

Etymology

From an obsolete verb stem *davūr- meaning "to refuse", which would have had stress on the last syllable of the stem in most forms. This is the reason for the unusual alternate stress pattern of daor; it is most often pronounced not as a standard diphthong, but as two separate monophthongs with word-final stress. The obsolete verb, being from an earlier stage of the language, probably never had a full infinitive form according to Peterson, but it would have been *davūragon had it existed.
