Language Navigation: Back to Game of Thrones Languages
High Valyrian is a language created by David Peterson for the HBO series Game of Thrones. The language is based on material from George R. R. Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire. The language can be classified either as an a posteriori language created by Peterson based on material from A Song of Ice and Fire or as an a priori language created by both Peterson and Martin. High Valyrian is intended to be the language of the fictional Valyrian Freehold—an empire that was destroyed at a time before the action of A Song of Ice and Fire.
